East of Santa Barbara in the town of Goleta (UCSB). From Highway 101, exit Storke Rd./Glen Annie and head south (away from mountains). Turn right on Hollister Avenue, drive about 1.2 miles and take a left on Coronado Drive. Entrance to the Preserve is at the end of Coronado Drive on the right. There is ample street parking.

The Coronado Butterfly Preserve was established as a nature preserve by the Land Trust for Santa Barbara in 1998. The 9.3-acre preserve and the Ellwood Main Monarch Grove are among the largest monarch butterfly wintering sites in southern California. Thousands of monarch butterflies hang from the eucalyptus trees in thick clusters and fly wildly around. The peak season for the migrating butterfly runs from December through February. Within the small preserve are woodlands, meadows and a creek.

Trails connect the preserve with the Ellwood Bluffs and beach to the west and Devereaux Lagoon (excellent tide pools) and Coal Oil Point Reserve to the east. The monarch grove is less than 0.5 miles from parking, but you can extend your hike at will.
