The Darby Wind Cave looks like a giant slit in the side of the mountain when hiking up to it. There is a stream of water running from the cave. If you hike it on a hot day the blast of cool air coming out of the cave feels really nice when you get there.
Be sure to bring a coat, gloves, and flashlights. The hike to the cave is a about 2.5 miles both ways.
The cave opens up rather large, but in places you really have to squeeze through so don't eat too many Tweenkies before going. You can only go so far into the cave without proper rapelling equipment.

The truth about this cave is that there are two ways to do the cave:
The first is for families and other inexperienced spelunkers. This involves hiking to the impressive slit in the side of the mountain and continuing until you arrive at a pit (this is a dead end for most people).
The second much more adventurous way is to enter the Darby Ice Cave and exit the Wind Cave (the impressive slit in the mountain). This involves almost 3 miles of underground passages and multiple rappels. To enter the ice cave hike up towards the death canyon shelf past the entrance to the wind cave and climb the talus field on your right to enter the entrance to the ice cave. There is a sign when you enter warning of the danger involved. Beware, this is a serious route requiring 6-12 hours underground and a total of 9 miles car to car. Bring a 50 meter rope to do the rappels, and know that you can only move through the cave in one direction, as there is a 20 meter rappel over an ice cliff. After about 2.5 miles of hiking, climbing, rappeling, and wading through freezing water you will come to the pit mentioned in the first section. Here there are a few bolts and someone will have to lead climb a 25ft pitch to exit the pit and begin you descent into the wind cave.

The hike to the Darby Wind Caves is about 2.5 miles to the entrance of the cave. The hike winds along a stream and through meadows and forests. Waterfalls are sometimes seen when there is run off.
If you hike past the caves there are some great views of the Teton Mountains and the valley.
There are a lot of other trails in the Teton area that you can hook into by starting at the wind caves trail.

THIS IS A GREAT HIKE WITH AMAZING VIEWS. GREAT PLACE TO CAMP. THOUGH IT GETS A LITTLE BUSY WITH JOGGERS IN THE MORNING. THE CAVE IS COLD AND HARD TO WALK ON BUT WELL WORTH THE TRIP
