There is a parking lot that you can start from and there is a charge for parking, 5$ last time I was there. There are two very clearly marked paths to the top of the mountain. The really neat thing about the peak is that there's not really one to speak of. It's flat on top (hense the name). It's good for a day hike, and is the most climbed mountain in the "The Last Frontier".

The second trail is up north face at a diagonal angle. The last little bit of the climb (about the last 30 feet or so) is climbing up among rocks. There's no need for equipment here though. The trail is not maintained in the winter.

The first trail goes up the west face and is a rather direct climb. Bring water, and prepare yourself for a great view. You can see almost all of Anchorage from the top.
