The trails start at about 6200 feet and go as high as 6700 feet. A lot of the trails are lighted by solar power. This is mountain cross-skiing for sure. There are long gradual climbs and reciprocating descents along the Nordic Highway trail. Shafer Butte Extension is a steep switchback climb up to a picnic ground area with a quick return trip. The picnic area has a great view of the backside of the hill.
